Network connections

In liveVoyager 12.04 there are many connection modes, depending on your own network hardware. To do that right click on Network Manager icon placed on top panel, in the systray. In the menu click on "Edit connections..."

Just click on preferred connection mode to setting it.

Wired (ethernet)

Ethernet wired connection is the easiest and best way to perform an internet connection. Usually it's enough to put the cable in, and run the connection (after modem/router setting up).

Wireless

Different and little much complex is the wireless connection set-up, as it's necessary the perfect hardware compatibility. Today there are much more hardware support than in the past. In any case you can read lot of documentation in internet to solve your own issues. Before buying a wireless devices, check its Linux compatibility.

Mobile (UMTS/GPRS/HSDPA)

Even the mobile internet connection is strictly dependent on hardware compatibility, so before buying an UMTS/3G/HASDPA device, deeply check its support by Linux. Check in Linux web forums, if you have some problem with your hardware.
Usually most of device has high compatibility, and it will be instantly recognized by the system. Just go into the Mobile tab and click on "Add" button.

A new dialog window allows you to set-up a broad.band mobile connection.
In the first you can see that the device was recognized. If that is your own, just click on "Continue".

In the next window it's necessary to choose your country to set-up the connection. Click on "Continue".

Now it's necessary to define your phone provider. Scroll the list to find your own, or add manually if lack. Click on "Continue".

Now you can define your tariff plan relative to the phone provider, and check the correct APN. As suggested by the tool itself, you must be very careful. Click on "Continue".

Here will shown the config data, before that their will be applied. If all went well, just click on "Apply" to made all operative.

VPN

a VPN (Virtual Private Network) allows an encrypted connection ("tunnelling") on Internet by a client (standalone or on separated LAN) and a LAN server, home or corporate.

For the config, just go to the tab and click on "Add" to set-up a new connection. By default liveVoyager provide a PPTP protocol that will be listed. Selecting the VPN type, you can proceed with other parameters (Gateway, user name, and password, etc.). You can set an automatic connection.

ADSL

The DSL connection is strictly dependent with hardware compatibility. If the DSL modem/router plugged-in is recognized by the system, just click on the ADSL tab to add this connection. Put in your data to enable this connection.
